A dog owner captured the heartwarming moment he uttered his pet’s favourite word in front of the pooch, prompting an utterly adorable reaction from the pup.
If there’s one thing that’s virtually guaranteed to go viral and capture people’s attention online, it’s charming videos of pets and animals. From cats snuggling together to dogs getting the zoomies, or even wild animals behaving in a domestic fashion, people simply adore watching animals being happy and carefree. None more so than pet owners, including one Los Angeles-based man who has created a TikTok account where he shares glimpses of his life with his dog, Truffle.
Truffle is a Long Haired Mini Dachshund enjoying the high life in LA. Boasting over 31,700 followers on TikTok, Truffle is frequently spotted playing with his owner or simply showing off his adorable personality.
In one particular clip, Truffle’s owner shared the little pup’s delightful reaction upon hearing his favourite word spoken aloud. And there’s absolutely no question that he adores what it means.
In the footage, Truffle is seen lounging on a blanket on the sofa, when his owner approached, causing the dog to slowly begin crawling towards him.

“Do you…,” the man said, causing the pup’s tail to start wagging furiously. “Want to….” the man continued before saying: “Go,” which prompted the dog to leap off the sofa and bolt towards the front door.
Clearly not bothered about their destination, provided they ventured out together. As they approached the front door, Truffle attempted to leap up the wall to reach his harness and lead, which was suspended directly beside the door.
“Do you want to…. go?” the owner playfully teased once more as he retrieved the harness and held it towards Truffle, who was bouncing excitedly on the floor.
“You wanna go? You wanna go?” he persisted, as he waved the harness in the air for Truffle to pursue.
The footage then transitioned to Truffle leaping with enthusiasm on the sofa, as he anticipated his owner coming to sit down so he could have the harness fitted. While slightly too excited to stay still, the owner had to restrain him as he fastened the harness, but the moment he released him, Truffle bolted at full speed back to the door.
Do dogs understand what we say?
While it may initially seem peculiar, dogs can genuinely comprehend what we say, though not precisely as humans do. Studies demonstrate they understand particular words, such as “sit” or “walk”.
However, they can also detect the tone of voice, and process both in separate regions of their brain, comparable to humans. While they don’t grasp complicated sentences, they can absorb vocabulary, emotional tone, and link sounds with particular outcomes.
If you beam and enthusiastically declare “let’s go for a walk!”, your dog will probably wag his tail and bounce around eagerly. If you express those identical words in a stern voice with a frown on your face, he may cower and whimper.
According to VCA Animal Hospitals, scientists have noted that dogs respond in a remarkably similar fashion to human infants when it comes to understanding language. Indeed, dogs may possess roughly the same cognitive capacity as a 6- to 12-month-old human infant, with both quickly grasping what ‘no’ means when they do something they shouldn’t.
While many scientists concur that dogs comprehend specific words, some dispute whether they can understand complete sentences. These researchers contend that saying “trees, birds, grass, walk” conveys the same meaning as “let’s go for a walk”. Even though the dog may not grasp every word in the sentence, he picks up on “walk”.
