A woman was puzzled when a “hungry” cat turned up outside her home, “crying” for attention and affection. Countless people across the globe opt to welcome animals into their homes, with pets becoming cherished, integral members of the family.
Cats rank among the most popular choices for a pet but, unlike dogs, they can be inclined to roam, explore and wander around their local area – and occasionally further away – which might result in them becoming lost. This is what one woman initially suspected had happened when the distinctive-looking cat appeared at her door.
The cat has thick, fluffy brown fur and striking light green eyes, but he wasn’t wearing a collar so the woman had no means of establishing whether he had owners who were missing him. First, she checked with her neighbours, assuming he must belong to one of them but this proved not to be the case.
Her house is “in a field” and “a lot of people” in the area “have barn cats” who frequently pass through, so she was certain the cat had owners who would be searching for him.

In a post shared on Reddit, the woman explained: “I did all the right things to search for his owner. I called the vet, the cat rescue, and the animal shelter.
“No one has reported a cat like this missing and the vet has never seen this cat. We checked for a microchip and he doesn’t have one. We asked our neighbours and he’s not anybody’s cat around here.”
But her tale has a happy ending – the woman and her family have chosen to keep the cat and “integrate him” into their household. Alongside a collection of photos of the young cat, the woman sought the Reddit community’s assistance in choosing a name for him.
She offered additional details about his character to help people come up with potential suggestions: “He’s a one year old male and EXTREMELY soft and sweet, loves attention, purrs super loudly and so far is very calm, content and peaceful.
“His personality so far is very chill. He’s just happy to get attention. Oh, and yes, he is in fact a very uncommon colour. Pretty green eyes too.”
The woman shared she does have a “pet name list” that she’s been “compiling forever” but, so far, none of her ideas seem “to fit him just right”.
In the comments section, fellow Reddit users were eager to offer their recommendations, with many believing he appeared “gentlemanly” and therefore ought to have a distinguished name incorporating a title such as “sir”.
One person said: “That face looks like it needs a ‘Sir’ before whatever name you choose!”
Another said: “I love him! And I agree with the post who said it needs to have a Sir or ever a Lord before his name. This is the way!”
A third referenced the wolf from the beloved 1984 film adaptation of The Neverending Story and said: “Gmork. Sir Gmork to you.”
While a fourth commented: “Sir Pumpkin. Hear me out: He has a picture in a cage with his snoot smooshed into the bars and my immediate thought was ‘despite all my rage I’m still just a rat in a cage’, so I thought of the song ‘bullet with butterfly wings’.
“The song is by Smashing Pumpkins. Therefore, I came up with Pumpkin and saw the Sir addition. Boom. Sir Pumpkin!”
Someone else added: “His chocolate colour is inspirational so something like Sir Wonka would be my train of thought.”
