Netflix adds ‘perfect adaptation’ of classic story | Films | Entertainment

A blockbuster comic book adaptation that took fans by surprise is now available to stream on Netflix.

Having first hit cinema screens back in 2023, The Flash has joined the platform’s vast library as part of a significant update to the streamer’s catalogue.

This also includes some of the final DC Extended Universe titles before James Gunn took the reins of the studio’s film and television output, beginning with last year’s Superman.

The Flash was amongst the most highly regarded of those titles by fans. The film sees Ezra Miller reprise his role as the titular hero capable of moving at extraordinary speeds, real name Barry Allen.

According to the film’s synopsis, worlds collide when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past.

But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no superheroes to turn to.

That is, unless Barry can coax a very different caped crusader out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life.

Not only does Miller return to the role they previously played in Batman v Superman and Justice League, but there are other noteworthy appearances to look forward to. Most notably, Michael Keaton reprises his performance as Bruce Wayne AKA Batman, marking his first time back in the role since 1992’s Batman Returns, reports the Mirror.

Further cameos and appearances are tucked away for devoted fans to uncover. The Flash ranks amongst the top 10 highest-rated DCEU films on Rotten Tomatoes, scoring 63% out of 17 titles.

However, audiences hold the film in considerably higher esteem, awarding it an impressive 81% on the popcornmeter score. One enthusiastic fan declared: “The highly anticipated Flash movie delivers an electrifying experience that combines jaw-dropping action sequences, mind-bending time travel, and unexpected twists that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

“This thrilling superhero adventure explores the consequences of tampering with time and introduces us to a new reality where the fate of the world hangs in the balance.” They continued: “This is a perfect live-action adaptation of the classic Flashpoint storyline.

“It’s not as dark but considering the corner they were backed into by which characters they could use etc, they did a great job of capturing the important parts of the story and translating it to the big screen.

“Equally, anyone can walk into this film without seeing any other film within the canon or adjacent. It is essentially a self-contained story. Tim Burton Batman fans also get the sequel they deserve.”

Another viewer enthused: “Best super hero movie of this decade. Love the CGI, action scenes and Batman really played his roles fantastically.”

While one person remarked: “I think besides John wick this is the best movie of 2023. I loved every second of it and it did not in anyway feel two and a half hours long.”

The Flash is streaming on Netflix.
